West Ham United will have to make some big decisions about the future direction of the club, because after a promising start to the 2023/24 season, the Hammer are at risk of missing out on European qualification.
The football under David Moyes has turned sour recently, and not all of that can be pinned on a rash of attacking injuries. If the club loses star playmaker Lucas Paquetà to Manchester City, more questions will be asked regarding Moyes’ ability to get the most out of the current crop of talent.
In the meantime, West Ham need to remain on the hunt for top attacking players who can help their chances of being European mainstays in an increasingly competitive Premier League, given the strides Aston Villa and Brighton have made under Unai Emery and Roberto De Zerbi, respectively.
Sunderland winger Jack Clarke is one of the young talents prominently on the Hammers’ transfer wishlist. According to a report from iNews.co.uk’s Mark Douglas, Sunderland are unwilling to break their wage structure to accommodate a Clarke extension, meaning he will be available for transfer.
That is the biggest lift West Ham could possibly get in the race to sign Clarke at this juncture, because it means the 23-year-old attacker is indeed available for a splash signing.
